About

Hi, I'm Ashley! Together with my husband Justin, I will be documenting life in a 660 sq ft house with our 5-1/2 year old son Logan, 16 month old daughter Emma, and our mutt of indeterminate age Pompeii.

Justin and I have spent a third of our lives (and counting) together, and in that time we have lived in a tiny apartment in a house, a married dorm above a coffee shop, another apartment in a house, a small suburban rental home, a 3rd floor walk-up, a 2,000 sq ft home on nearly an acre with chickens and a pool, and the small suburban rental home (again). In just a few short weeks we will be moving again into a 660 sq ft home.

Why so small? Well, our previous home (the 2,000 sq ft one) was located in the north Georgia mountains, where homes are less expensive than the median in our state. Having two small children, we decided to move closer to our families and are now in the metro Atlanta area, where the median home price is much higher. Disappointed by an under-stocked housing market in our area, and with too many others fighting for the same properties, we started thinking outside the box.
One day Justin checked the listings of new homes and found something intriguing. Two homes for sale, side by side, near the downtown of our city. Both were originally built in 1950, and had recently been torn down to the foundation and rebuilt. They were small enough that many other buyers were scared off, and we could buy both and remain under budget. So that's what we decided to do. We will live in one, rent the other, and document our adventures in our 2 bedroom, 1 bath, 660 st ft home.
We see this as an opportunity to grow even closer as a family and learn to live more with less. Although we are not truly minimalists in the purest sense of the word, we are trying to live more consciously, and we are hoping that by removing some of the external clutter we can create a happier home. Hence the title of our blog: moderately minimal.
Thank you for joining us on our journey!
